Anne Rice: With these recent lists of the hottest vampires, I don't think Brad Pitt is getting the credit he deserves for his portrayal of Louis in Interview with the Vampire. Brad was terrific. Certainly the most sublimely beautiful vampire ever. (November 5 at 3:01pm)

Anne Rice: An emailer today asks me if I had it to do over again, would I write Interview with the Vampire? This is a surprising question. Yes, I certainly would write it. But I wonder why this person asked. (November 10 at 9:07am)

Anne Rice: I'm with you all on the feel and fragrance of read books, and I'm surrounded by them on the walls, on tables, on chairs. But the kindle is a toy to me, and worth exploring. Also for new authors, this is a great way to get the work out there. (November 11 at 5:17pm)

Anne Rice: Marius would indeed enjoy a kindle, having been through scrolls, codices and printed books in his 2,000. But Lestat wouldn't like kindle. He likes to lie on the floor by the window and read by moonlight. Armand? He'd probably love kindle. Gabrielle? She's never bother with learning how to work it. Maharet? She loves it. (November 11 at 5:28pm)

Anne Rice: Wonderful comments, thank you. Louis does not like kindles. He doesn't like connecting to anything or anyone. David Talbot has several, but still loves his leatherbound books. Mona Mayfair will try anything. The ghost of Oncle Julien has found a kindle and is loving it, much to the torment of the mortal who owns it ...and can't figure out what is happening to the kindle. (November 11 at 5:51pm)

Anne Rice: Two nights ago, I watched the original Dracula with Bela Lugosi and Dwight Frye. Have to confess I loved it and laughed outloud all the way through it. It's a classic and a kick. Do you guys like it? (November 12 at 9:01am)

Anne Rice: I just went walking in my garden, admiring the pepper trees and the surrounding mountains in the morning sun. A good exercise for certain. (3:08 PM Nov 13th)

Anne Rice: What more can I do to prove to people writing to me that I am Anne Rice? No matter what I have done, some people still do not believe that I am the one answering their emails. Sometimes I want to throw up my hands. (November 13 at 9:10am)

Anne Rice: I've been walking around my property, feeling the warmth of the sun, looking at the mountains, meditating on the present. The present! (4:52 PM Nov 14th)

Anne Rice: Vampires are getting tremendous coverage in today's NYT and LA Times, due to the new Twilight film; LA's travel section had a piece on vampire haunts, including the plantation in Louisiana used in the film of IWTV. Kind of fun. (November 15 at 10:06am)

Anne Rice: Just watched Dracula's Daughter with Gloria Holden, the first vampire film I ever saw as a child; and which inspired all my later novels. Lovely old film. Perfect atmosphere. (November 15 at 7:01pm)

Anne Rice: I read in the paper this morning that same sex marriage will be legal in one So. American country. Good news. (2:39 PM Nov 17th)

Anne Rice: If you've read it, tell me, what do you think is the main theme of Memnoch the Devil? (November 17 at 12:07pm)

Anne Rice: I, too, love physical books, the feel, the smell of the paper and ink, the whole experience of curling up with a book, or sitting for hours turning the pages. So ebooks are not for me, really, but I'll tell you what draws me to my kindle: it's the search feature, that allows me to search for every mention of a character, etc. (November 18 at 9:31am)

Anne Rice: I think the key question is this: will ebooks bring books to people who wouldn't otherwise read them? Do audiobooks do this? If we're expanding the reading public that is a good thing. (November 18 at 10:47am)

Anne Rice: Do you think my books have a feminist subtext? I'm very interested in your opinion. (November 19 at 9:23am)

Anne Rice: Your responses to my question about whether or not my books have a feminist subtext are amazing me. I see that for many of you feminism is something negative. When I asked the question, I meant it as something positive. I'm learning a lot from your comments. (November 19 at 11:25am)

Anne Rice: Thank you for your comments here on all the different posts. Much appreciated. And I do read them with pleasure and interest. Regarding interviews, I will basically talk to just about any interviewer who is interested and will let me say what I believe to be true. (November 19 at 11:44am)

Anne Rice: As a Roman Catholic, a born again Christian, a liberal, a Democrat and a pro gay rights activist, I am easy to despise, but I keep going, ready and willing to talk to anyone, wanting to join hands and include, rather than turning my back on some one, or excluding. Hope this makes clear why I turn up in some surprising media venues. (November 19 at 11:45am)

Anne Rice:
Of course it is possible to be a loyal Roman Catholic and support gay rights in our secular society. Yet some here question this? Before the Civil War many churches supported slavery; but an individual member could certainly disagree on such an issue. Churches move slowly on social issues. Individuals can easily be wa...y ahead of the institution. Doctrine is one thing. Social policies are another. (November 19 at 1:16pm)

Anne Rice: There are many Roman Catholic Democrats in this country. We are pro-life but we are Democrat because of our stand on health care, war, and many other issues. We support Obama. We are conscientious people. We also believe in our two party system. (November 19 at 1:17pm)

Anne Rice: It will be sad to see the Oprah Winfrey show go. So many authors have been helped by Winfrey, myself included. (2:58 PM Nov 20th)

Anne Rice: Years ago, I appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show when my novel, The Witching Hour, was in the stores. The book's sales surged. Winfrey has done a great deal to foster interest in fiction, and to help authors gain wider recognition. It will be sad to see her show go. (November 20 at 9:01am)

Anne Rice:
Answer to question below: I don't think Oprah did walk out on a screening of Interview with the Vampire. But she was shocked by the movie, apparently, and Tom Cruise's appearance on her show about it was difficult for all involved. (November 20 at 10:32am)

Anne Rice: For me, Tom Cruise is a great actor. He was fabulous in Rain Man, Born on the 4th of July, in Interview with the Vampire, and in The Last Samurai. I can't think of any film in which he was bad. People punish him for his popularity and his capacity to take risks, but he is very simply a fine actor. (November 20 at 11:23am)

Anne Rice: So, who is going to see New Moon today, besides me? --- Post here, if you've seen it. Would love to hear your thoughts. (November 20 at 11:38am)

Anne Rice: I wonder do we feel helpless in the face of Global Warming and the controversies surrounding the subject? (4:40 PM Nov 21st)

Anne Rice: Saw New Moon last night. Definitely in the tradition of Bronte's Jane Eyre and DeMaurier's Rebecca: a romance about a young girl longing to be taken seriously by a powerful male figure. No wonder it strikes a chord in so many. (November 21 at 10:41am)

Anne Rice: Please understand, I am not "comparing" Jane Eyre or Rebecca to Twilight and New Moon. I am saying that the films I saw, Twilight and New Moon, are in the tradition of female romance. Bronte and De Maurier are outstanding examples of that type of novel. I can't judge Ms. Meyer's work as I haven't read it. Of course ...these movies are for very young teenagers. That is part of their intent. (November 21 at 12:39pm)

Anne Rice: Given the market clearly identified by Ms. Meyer, some one could remake Jane Eyre today for a new teenage readership. Imagine Dakota Fanning as Jane, and Jeremy Irons or Clive Owen as Mr. Rochester. (November 21 at 12:45pm)

Anne Rice: Okay, so a big remake of Jane Eyre is already planned. Great news. I'll have to check out the stories on this. And by the way the Vatican Pontifical Council for Culture has indeed condemned New Moon. Wonders never cease! (November 21 at 1:11pm)

Anne Rice: I'm not criticizing the Catholic church because the Pontifical Council on Culture criticized New Moon. I'm simply amazed that the Vatican took any notice at all of New Moon. I've never been noticed by the Vatican, and I never expect to be. I think it's kind of...well...interesting that New Moon caught their attention. (November 21 at 1:38pm)

Anne Rice: Armand to Louis: "You realize this woman writes that her vampires sparkle in the sun!" Louis in reply. "Well, that's better than burning up in the sun, isn't it?" (November 22 at 7:44pm)

Anne Rice: Is New Moon good for the economy? Apparently so. The success of the movie is giving hope to Hollywood for a good Christmas season. (November 23 at 10:07am)

Anne Rice: I'm listening to the new Mormon Tabernacle Choir's album, The Wonder of Christmas, and it is certainly one of the most beautiful Christmas albums, I've ever heard. I've ordered three more copies for others. Dazzling. (November 23 at 10:17am)

Anne Rice: I'm puzzled by some of your responses to my mentioning the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I feel one can support the choir by purchasing an album without agreeing with the policies of any particular church. --- When you buy my books are you supporting the Catholic church? I think not. But I'm a Catholic. (November 23 at 10:52am)

Anne Rice: Of course I am for equal rights for gays in our society, and I did not like the idea that the Mormon church campaigned against this in California. But we combat differing opinions by expressing our own. We take to the political arena to express political views. I don't believe in boycotting people with whom I disagree. (November 23 at 3:05pm)

Anne Rice: On Rep. Kennedy and Bishop Tobin asking him not to receive Communion, it sounds like a political matter, involving the church's stand against abortion, and Rep. Kennedy's stand for abortion. How can I comment on that? (November 23 at 4:34pm)

Anne Rice: As I read the gospels, Jesus did not deny Communion to Judas or to Peter, who would soon deny Him three times. But obviously this issue with Rep. Kennedy has to do with public policies and public figures in the political arena. (November 23 at 4:42pm)

Anne Rice: In my church, no one is questioned as to his or her sins or beliefs before Communion. But Rep. Kennedy is a public figure with public opinions; and this is clearly what concerns the bishop. Do I agree with all this? Not really, but it doesn't matter whether I agree. (November 23 at 4:54pm)

Anne Rice: In your opinion, who was Lestat's best love interest, lover, friend, companion, in all the Chronicles? (November 25 at 12:42pm)

Anne Rice: I knew Louis would be the favorite of Lestat's lovers. Terrific on that. Not surprised at all. But for me, I think David was my favorite of all Lestat's intimate friends, but that has to do with the writing of David and the writing of the two of them together. (November 25 at 12:50pm)

Anne Rice: What human character in the Chronicles dies the most terrible, and most lamentable death? I know who this is for me. See if you can guess. I think about that character to this day, and the death. (November 25 at 12:55pm)

Anne Rice: On the death, I'm talking of a human being who never became a vampire. He is a real character for a brief time and then dies horribly, which I personally regret. Guess who this is. (Okay, he's male.) (November 25 at 1:00pm)

Anne Rice: Bingo. Simone Macari, it is Riccardo in The Vampire Armand, a character I deeply loved who died horribly. I still think about him, because he had real life to me in the book. Others guessed it too when they said Marius's apprentices, as Riccardo was one of these. (November 25 at 1:09pm)

Anne Rice: I hope each and everyone of you have a splendid Thanksgiving Day with those you love, with plenty of food and plenty to be thankful for. I am thankful for all of you who comment here and participate in this marvelous experience. I love your comments, your emails, your questions. Take care, and love, Anne. (November 25 at 4:56pm)

Anne Rice: Time to wish a happy Thanksgiving to you of you, wherever you might be. I hope it is a day of feasting with those whom you love. (10:57 PM Nov 25th)

Anne Rice: So is the house filled with the fragrance of the roasting turkey? Is anyone planning to eat himself sick? I'm going to see A Christmas Carol at midday and then coming home for an evening feast. (November 26 at 8:48am)

Anne Rice: Just returned from seeing the new A Christmas Carol in 3 D; it was entertaining, and had many good things in it. But nothing cuts the 1951 Alaister Sim Scrooge. That's still the best for me. And it's now out in Blu Ray. (November 26 at 3:26pm)

Anne Rice: After dinner, we'll be watching the original Miracle on 34th Street., sort of tradition here. (9:27 PM Nov 26th)

Anne Rice: My son, Christopher Rice, has already posted a pic of me in my 3D glasses from our trip out to see A Christmas Carol. Now I have find this, wherever it is on his Facebook page! Anne Rice: Two people below commented that they felt uneasy reading fiction about Jesus. Please understand Catholics have a long tradition of celebrating the life of Jesus through art. Michelangelo, Titian, Raphael, Botticelli -- all their paintings of Christ are "fiction." Our hymns and poetry are "fiction." The script for Gibs...on's The Passion of the Christ" was fiction. We embrace believe in this. (Sat at 8:36pm)

Anne Rice: Because people have mentioned this, questioning the legitimacy of fiction about Jesus, I will be posting some links to some of the more substantive reviews we received on the Christ the Lord novels. You can always skip this, of course. We'll start tomorrow. (Sat at 8:39pm)

Anne Rice: Watched the blu-ray of Angels and Demons yesterday. An interesting fantasy, rather well done, I thought. Music impressive. (4:04 PM Nov 29th) from web

Anne Rice: Do you feel that in my work I have ever unfairly abandoned an enthralling character? Who would that be? (Sun at 10:05am)

Anne Rice: Here's a treasured image, Stan and I in Golden Gate Park in the 60's. It was an enchanted forest that day. (4:24 PM Nov 29th) from Facebook

Anne Rice Twitter 11047211526120451664358

Anne Rice: The character that I feel bad about abandoning is Louis. I could never really bring back Louis in a full scale fashion. I don't know why. I tried, but it never worked. And I think his slipping away in the Chronicles is not a good thing. (Sun at 11:27am)

Anne Rice: When I think of my new hero, Toby O'Dare, I think of openness and promise, unlimited possibilities. I fear that the Vampire Chronicles closed down around me at the end; there were no more stories in me to tell with those beloved characters and their tragic situation. (Sun at 12:05pm)

Anne Rice: My husband, Stan, was the physical model for Lestat. Here is a photo from 1978, when he still very much looked the part for me. (about 15 hours ago) from Facebook

Anne Rice: In forty-five minutes the New Orleans Saints will be playing the Patriots in the SuperDome. I'll bet the tailgate parties are wild this evening. Can't wait to turn on the game. (Yesterday at 4:47pm)

Anne Rice: Is there anybody who doesn't know the Saints have won every game they've played this season, meaning 10 games, and anybody who doesn't know who Drew Brees is? That he's a great six foot tall quarterback for the Saints? (Yesterday at 4:53pm)

Anne Rice: A beginner's question: why did the Saints not push for a touchdown when they had the ball? Why settle for a field goal and then turn over the ball, at the very beginning of the game? I don't understand. (Yesterday at 6:04pm)

Anne Rice: Half time with the Saints ahead! This is terrific. Drew Brees is fabulous. I can close my eyes and put myself in the Superdome, bathed in noise and excitement. (11 hours ago)

Anne Rice: Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints for their great victory last night, and for playing a simply terrific game. Now it's an eleven game winning streak. (5 hours ago)

Anne Rice: Being a New Orleans Saints fan and a football fan are two different things; but I'm being converted. Last night's victory was great. (about 4 hours ago)

Anne Rice: Michael Mann is one fine director. Just watched Collateral, a powerful movie, and to think this man directed The Last of the Mohicans, such a radically different, yet equally powerful and beautiful film. Quite something. Can't wait to see Public Enemies. (2 hours ago)

Anne Rice: In my opinion, Tom Cruise never makes a bad film, and always gives a remarkable performance. Collateral, War of the Worlds -- I watched both today and Tom Cruise's name always means quality. --- Take Magnolia for instance, a genius film. (2 hours ago)

Anne Rice: It's after midnight and I'm still awake. Dental surgery this morning threw me off schedule. I've watched three films in a row, and am jotting lines of dialogue for Toby O'Dare in my journal. Need to gear down but I'd really love another Tom Cruise film. (2 hours ago)

Anne Rice: People seem to want to weigh in on Tom Cruise as a person. So let me say this: he's a perfect gentleman in the finest sense of the word; and he has principles, real principles. He stands up for what he believes; and he is always a genuinely kind person. (about an hour ago)

Anne Rice: As far as I know, Tom Cruise has never expressed any desire to play Lestat again in a film. If he did, we would know about it. And lots of people would listen. Rumors on the web that he was buying the rights to Tale of the Body Thief were false. I'm sure we'll get another great Lestat in the next film. (about an hour ago)

Thanks to those of you who are taking a chance on my father, Howard O'Brien's novel, The Impulsive Imp. He wrote this for children in the 1940's, and read chapters to me and my sister. Now it's on Amazon, and I can already see that it is getting interest. Thank you, thank you, thank you. (42 minutes ago)

Anne Rice: A reminder. My Father's novel, The Impulsive Imp by Howard O'Brien, is available on Amazon, in both print and on kindle. We're delighted and grateful that readers are taking an interest. At last this novel which my father read to us in the 1940's -- in our old house in New Orleans -- is seeing the light of day.

Anne Rice: Is the short story dead in America? Not to Kindle. They've made a deal with The Atlantic to publish short stories, and this is amazing news for American literature and for writers far and wide. Kindle is changing everything. (13 hours ago)

Anne Rice: See today's NYT for "The Atlantic Will Sell Short Stories on Kindle." Great news for readers and writers. (about 3 hours ago) from web

Anne Rice: When I read that Amazon would be offering short stories on Kindle, I felt the earth move beneath my feet. This seemingly small new story in the NYT has huge implications. People have always loved short stories! That Kindle can do this with obvious ease is very simply staggering. What next? (13 hours ago)

Anne Rice: It's the flexibility and low cost of producing material that makes Kindle so revolutionary. As of Monday, two short stories will be offered, one by Christopher Buckley and one by Edna O'Brien, at $3.99 each. (10 hours ago)

Anne Rice: Barnes and Noble's electronic Nook is worth a look, also. As are other ebook devices. If short stories can be available to us one at a time for so little cost, well, that might greatly encourage our appetite for new short fiction. (10 hours ago)

Anne Rice: I myself do think that $3.99 is a good price for a discrete short story. I find anthologies cumbersome. I never like or want all the stories. I'm definitely open to buying stories one at a time for $3.99. I think Amazon is really on to something. (11 hours ago)

Anne Rice: I agree that the price of the Kindle is heavy, but I think we will see this change dramatically. I have no inside info, but I bet we see a great drop in price just as we did decades ago with pocket calculators. And the Kindle itself will be improved, perhaps to show the publisher's original font and even illustrations. (10 hours ago)

Anne Rice: Don't look for Kindle or the Nook to make physical books obsolete. That will never happen. This is something else again, a new dimension for publishing and reaching readers. I say don't fear it; embrace it. (10 hours ago)

Anne Rice: How many of you read Algenon Blackwood? He's one of the greatest horror writers ever. I've been on Amazon today reviewing his work, purchasing a biography of him, and reviewing his work released for Kindle. I love the man. Have studied him for over thirty years. He's a master. Any responses? (10 hours ago)

Anne Rice: My favorite Algernon Blackwood stories are "Ancient Mysteries" and "Secret Worship." Would love to see "Ancient Mysteries" made into a great film. Blackwood's vocabulary and style are rich and beautiful; he's taught me a great deal. (2 hours ago)

Anne Rice: Yes, the title, Blackwood Farm, was a tribute to Algernon Blackwood. His prose at its best is as timeless and supple as that of Charles Dickens. He left many many short stories and some longer works. I think some of you will surely love him. (2 hours ago)

Anne Rice: Algernon Blackwood, Sheridan Le Fanu, and M.R. James are my trio of giants when it comes to supernatural literature. Their works will make great Christmas gifts for those who love sensuous and deep horror stories, and stories that seek to transcend the genre. (2 hours ago)

Anne Rice: People ask what inspired me to write my novels, who influenced me, etc. Algernon Blackwood, Sheridan Le Fanu, and M.R. James were huge influences. They taught me that supernatural fiction can be beautiful and meaningful. (2 hours ago)

Anne Rice: Good morning, Guys. The New Orleans Saints are playing the Washington Redskins on Fox! (4 hours ago)

Anne Rice: Thank Heaven that game is over, with the Saints winning by three points! My blood sugar can't take these crises! I'm delirious. It was a terrifically exciting game. (I think I'm beginning to "get" Football. What a surprise. (52 minutes ago)

Anne Rice:
No matter where one's loyalties lie, the Saints are playing great football, and all of those who were loyal to them over the years are in Heaven. I mean for New Orleans this is a great season, to say the least. (49 minutes ago)

Beijokas.
